Theme: “Celebrating

The Filmmaking Workshop will be intensive, instructional, and practical, engaging participants to think, develop, and create their own stories/concepts for films. The course is designed to introduce the major aspects of filmmaking.

Expected Outcome

The program aims to introduce filmmaking concepts and lets students have an opportunity to produce their own short film under the guidance of professionals. The workshop will end with a reflection on their learning process after the final screening of their productions.

Curriculum in Detail

Sessions and timings to be included after confirmation from Resource Persons:

An Introduction to Cinema / Film Analysis – Mr. Theodore Baskaran
Idea to Screen – Mr. Ashok Maridas
Understanding Self and Society ( Social Analysis) – Mr. David Selvaraj

Session 1: Introduction on the purpose of the workshop – the need for good films today.

Session 2: Introduction to Cinema or What is Cinema?

Session 3: Introduction to Filmmaking/Film Production Process, including Pre-production, Production, and Post-production.

Session 4: Understanding the Digital Camera and its features, the Exposure Triangle – Shutter Speed, Aperture, and ISO, and how to set the right exposure for a shot.

Session 5: Framing and Composition, Rule of Thirds, Creating depth in composition, and how to frame a shot with meaning.

Session 6: How to develop an idea? Plot, Conflict, and Resolution.

Session 7: Types of Shots and Camera Angles, when, why, and how to use them to tell a story.

Session 8: Three basic rules every filmmaker should know/follow. Understanding film continuity.

Session 9: Shooting a scene together. Live demonstration.

Session 10: Developing a script for a Short film Production in teams.

Session 11: Pre-production for a Short film (with at least 3 scenes).

Session 12: Productions in teams.

Session 13: Post-productions.

Session 14: Final Preview.
